Texas A&M University System has launched the TELUS Student Support app for its 153,000 students, including those at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The app offers free, confidential mental health support 24/7. Dr. Theresa Sharpe, Director of TAMU-CC University Counseling Center, highlighted the role of mental health in student success and wellness.
The TELUS app, available on Android and iOS, connects students with professional counselors. James Hallmark, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for the A&M System, hopes the app will motivate students to seek help for mental health issues.
The app provides mental health services in various languages, including Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Cantonese. It also features a scheduling system for repeat sessions, an educational media library, anonymous assessments for conditions like depression and anxiety, and guided meditations and fitness sessions.
Dr. Sharpe sees the app as an important resource for mental health support. She stressed the university’s dedication to student wellbeing and the importance of mental health awareness.
