Flint Hills Resources is looking at the possibility of using solar energy to provide as much as 30% of the power required for its west refinery in Corpus Christi, according to representatives.
Describing the proposed facility as a “utility-scale, non-rooftop solar complex,” a news release issued Friday described prospective plans as including 62,000 solar panels.
It is proposed for development on about 150 acres south of Flint Hills Resources’ west refinery, which includes among its products jet fuel, low-sulfur gasoline and diesel, according to the email.
A final decision on development is anticipated mid-year, the release states.
The company is “excited to explore the possibility of integrating solar energy into our Corpus Christi operations,” wrote Rodney Dillon, Vice President and manufacturing manager, in the press release.
“We are constantly looking at ways to innovate and improve our competitiveness while minimizing emissions and reducing the resources required to make the fuels and other products people need and use every day,” he added.
