The nominations for the Caller-Times Student of the Week initiative are in, and now it’s time for you to pick the best of the best.
Participating Coastal Bend high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors nominated high school students they say have shown outstanding academic and school achievement.
We will announce a winner and runner-up Friday.

And the nominees for Feb. 12 are:
- Andrew Elizondo, Banquete High School — Senior Andrew Elizondo is a well-rounded student and athlete who shows good sportsmanship on the court and courteous behavior in the classroom, according to his nomination from Banquete ISD.
- Jathan Ten Cate, Kaufer Early College High School — Sophomore Jathan Ten Cate is a top-ranking student in Riviera ISD. He is able to successfully meet the challenges of being a both a high school and college student. His extracurricular activities include band, where he serves as a section leader, UIL science team and the KEDT Challenge Team. Earning awards in the UIL science contest and advancing to the Coastal Bend Regional Science Fair are just a few of his accolades. He is always respectful, helpful, and has an amazing work ethic, according to his nomination from Riviera ISD.
- Kaylee Larson, Calallen High School — Kaylee Larson is in the top 10 of her graduating class and is extremely active in swim and golf at Calallen High School while maintaining her grades in multiple Advanced Placement classes. She has multiple district swim records.
