Here’s how Corpus Christi ISD approaches student gaps from 2023-24 school year

If a student needs extra support or didn’t meet grade-level expectations this year, summer school is one way Corpus Christi ISD strives to keep students on track.

In middle school STEM classes this summer, students used Oreos to simulate plate tectonics, designed marble roller coasters to learn about inertia and drew out the phases of the moon on a poster with a hole in the middle, designed for students to place their head inside and spin the poster like the moon revolves around the earth.

Corpus Christi ISD incorporates projects and activities like these with the goal of keeping students engaged and boosting student learning.

One of the main ways the state understands how students are performing and whether they’re meeting standards is the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness. These mandatory tests are administered online.

Starting in third grade, students take annual math and reading STAAR tests in the spring. In fifth grade and eighth grade, they also take a science test. A social studies test is added in eighth grade.
