Cyclists, here’s what to know about Conquer the Coast tour of the Coastal Bend on Saturday

More than 1,000 riders from across Texas and the country will embark on an annual bicycle ride around the 66-mile shoreline of Corpus Christi Bay for the 22nd annual Conquer the Coast on Saturday.

Initially created by the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce to raise money for the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islander Athletics Program, the event has grown to attract riders of all skill levels from throughout the region, now offering route options of 66, 21 and 10 miles.

Conquer the Coast offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the coastal breeze, palm trees and waterfront view of Ocean Drive, as well as a trip over the Harbor Bridge to Portland, Ingleside and Aransas Pass and a ferry ride to Port Aransas — all on a bike.

As many as 80% of riders originated from outside of Corpus Christi during last year’s ride, coming from as far as Washington state to participate, stay in hotels, and visit local restaurants and businesses, contributing to the local economy, said Al Arreola, CEO of the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce.
