The air conditioning system at Corpus Christi International Airport may be restored in about a week or two after an outage occurred Tuesday.
The airport reported the AC system was impacted by low pressure in the chilled water loop that circulates the building.
Staff brought in an outside contractor, Pro-Tech, to troubleshoot the problem and it was discovered there was a second issue with the condensed water lines feeding the cooling towers.
A decision was made to bring in portable AC units, which stabilized the issue and cooled the terminal.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, the airport apologized to passengers who experienced the difficulties the day prior.
John Hyland, chief of public safety for the airport, said in an email that a contractor was onsite Wednesday to begin the emergency repair.
“We continue to monitor the building chilled water loop to make sure we maintain pressure,” Hyland said. “CCIA staff worked to almost midnight making sure that cold air was coming out of the vents. For some, that was a 15-hour day, so kudos to the CCIA team that reacted quickly to the problem and implemented measures to mitigate the effects. Other than it being a little warm in the building, it didn’t inconvenience our patrons too much.”
