On what would have been Caleb Harris’ 22nd birthday, community members, students and staff gathered Tuesday night at a campus vigil at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to remember the student .

Harris disappeared from his off-campus apartment on March 4. Human remains were found in a Corpus Christi wastewater well in June and later identified as Harris. The announcement in July of his death sent many Islanders and people throughout the community reeling.

The vigil, held in the University Center Anchor Ballrooms, where it was rescheduled from the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Plaza due to rain, provided a place for people to join together to grieve for Harris, write letters to his parents and loved ones on stationery provided by TAMU-CC, and pay their respects.

Guests held tea lights and listened as the speakers made their acknowledgments.

“My prayers were immediately with Caleb, but they were just as much with his parents, whose pain I could not begin to imagine,” said TAMU-CC President Kelly Miller, who gave opening remarks. “Those closest to Caleb were not alone, as his disappearance was also felt by Islanders everywhere.
