Tropical Influenced Thunderstorms Bringing Flooding Issues Near New Orleans
10/04/24 2:19pm ET
Good afternoon everyone. As forecasted and expected, we’re watching heavy tropical showers and thunderstorms developing across a wide area of Louisiana, plus parts of south Texas, and the Florida Panhandle.
In Louisiana, tropical energy continues to surge northward off of the Gulf of Mexico, and into the Bayou/Mississippi Delta region. Slow moving heavy showers and thunderstorms are also entering the New Orleans area, and causing some localized flooding issues in poor drainage areas.
Meanwhile in Texas, we are watching that tropical low pressure system drift westward and come ashore near the Brownsville and South Padre Island area. This has been responsible for squally conditions with heavy gusty showers and thunderstorms up the coast, to near Corpus Christi.
Not to ignore Florida, we’re also watching a band of very heavy thunderstorms beginning to come ashore across the panhandle. With any of these thunderstorms along the Gulf Coast, there is a risk of isolated severe weather embedded within these bands and clusters of heavy rain.
