Gregory-Portland takes to the air to pull away from Carroll in Battle of the Bridge

Gregory-Portland broke open a tight, defensive contest in the renewal of the Battle of the Bridge against Carroll to earn a 42-7 win on Thursday at Buc Stadium.

The Wildcats broke the stalemate with 1:12 left until halftime when Cody Adame capped a drive with a 6-yard touchdown plunge to lead 7-0 at the half.

It was the third deep drive G-P had mustered in the first half, but the first two were sent back with fourth-down stops by the Tigers defense.

The Wildcats took to the air to break the game open as Reed Dooms and Brandon Coates had standout games as G-P improved to 3-0 in district.

Carroll, still playing without its starting quarterback, hit for a few big plays in the first half, but couldn’t sustain the drives, and got its touchdown on an 89-yard kickoff return from Charles Marth late in the contest.

The Tigers lost four of five fumbles in the game, despite a strong defensive effort to limit G-P in the first half.
