The Aransas County Historical Society will host a special community lecture on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m. at 204 S. Austin Street in Rockport. Titled “Windswept Shores: Stories of Aransas County,” the presentation will be led by local historian and longtime Historical Society trustee Janie Collier White.
The lecture celebrates the release of Windswept Shores, a newly published collection of 122 stories written by and about the people of Aransas County. The book captures the voices and memories of local residents, spanning from the Texas Revolution era through 2014. Many of the stories are accompanied by personal photographs, providing a rich visual history of life along the Texas coast.
The idea for the book began in 2014, when the Historical Society put out a call for submissions from the community. Progress was steady until August 25, 2017, when Hurricane Harvey made landfall and brought life in Aransas County to a standstill. Many contributors faced the destruction of their homes and businesses, and work on the book was suspended.
