Legal eagles battle for arena nesting rights

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The name on the American Bank Center could soon be changing, and two of South Texas’ most well-known legal heavyweights are driving up the price.

Corpus Christi city leaders say the Hilliard law firm and Thomas J. Henry are both in the running to secure naming rights for the downtown arena. Councilman Eric Cantu said the bidding battle has escalated quickly.

“When I woke up this morning, I heard it was $1.5 million and then 30 minutes later it went up to $2 million,” Cantu said. “So, I haven’t gotten a briefing from the city, but I am assuming there is a bidding war going on right now.”…
