Governor Abbott signs new bill expected to make housing affordable in Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Several housing bills are expected to make housing more affordable in Texas starting in September.

Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill (SB) 15 on June 20. SB 15 gives homebuilders more flexibility to build smaller homes on lots, aiming to reduce housing costs.

The Texas Tribune reported initially that SB 15 would forbid major cities from requiring homes in new subdivisions to sit on more than 1,400 square feet as first proposed in the bill.
