Dirt, cotton… and now water? Massive desal plant sprouts in Driscoll

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A cotton field in Nueces County may soon be known less for lint and more for liquid. The South Texas Water Authority just broke ground on a new desalination plant along Business 77 and FM 665. One designed to turn brackish groundwater into clean, drinkable water.

The event included local officials and developers who fired up the first test well moments after the ceremonial golden shovels hit the dirt. And the early results were promising.

“We want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” said Jose Graveley, a board director with the South Texas Water Authority. “We are here to help.”…
