CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A South Texas delegation led by Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo is in the nation’s capital this week, fighting to keep one of the region’s economic engines alive: the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD).
The local push comes as the Army considers shifting away from traditional helicopter fleets in favor of drones a move that could mean fewer aircraft needing repairs, and fewer jobs at CCAD.
At its peak 15 years ago, CCAD employed nearly 6,000 people. Today, that number has dwindled to around 2,500 and local officials fear more cuts could be on the horizon…
