CCFD contains recycling plant fire, no injuries reported

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Fire Department responded to a blaze Friday at a recycling plant off Highway 44, near the Corpus Christi International Airport.

The fire broke out in a large pile of debris, prompting a complex response due to the pile’s density. Fire crews coordinated with the company to use heavy equipment to carefully pull the debris apart to access the core of the fire.

“Given the nature of the incident, you know, it’s a large pile of debris, so those are already difficult to get to the seed of those fires,” said Captain Patrick Frost. “We also want to make sure we did a thorough job. We worked with the company here to use their heavy equipment to pull piles of that debris out, and as they pulled piles out, we were able to get deeper and deeper into the seed of that fire and extinguish and cool what they had pulled out.”…
