CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has launched its Shark Week celebrations, offering a weeklong series of events to engage students and the public in marine research focused on one of the Gulf’s most iconic predators.
Throughout the week, university researchers are presenting their ongoing projects, followed by panel discussions that dive deeper into the significance of their work. Among the topics: what sharks eat and how their diets can serve as indicators of overall ocean health.
“It does give us an indication of what’s going on overall, as they are those upper predators that eat all the things below them like fish, other things,” said Jasmine Nyce, a Ph.D. student at TAMU-CC. “So, if there is something going on, the sharks might give us an idea on what that might be.”…
