CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Frio River is finally flowing again, at least for now.
Recent storms in Uvalde County have sent a surge of water downstream, reviving what had been a dry stretch of the Frio near the Highway 99 bridge, about 20 miles north-northwest of Three Rivers. What was once a trickle is now rushing toward Choke Canyon Reservoir.
But here’s the catch: Choke Canyon is still sitting at a dangerously low 12.7% capacity. While the river surge is a welcome sight, Three Rivers City Manager Thomas Salazar says it won’t fix the problem overnight…
