Texas’ ‘most boring’ city lands $40M entertainment complex

A massive entertainment venue is coming to South Texas and is getting a multimillion dollar tax break to do so.

Cinergy Entertainment, a “family entertainment” company based out of Dallas, will invest $40 million to build a 90,000-square-foot “family entertainment center” on a 10-acre plot of land in Corpus Christi, according to documents obtained from the city of Corpus Christi. In exchange, city leaders have agreed to give the company a $4.15 million property tax break spread out over 15 years.

The multiuse entertainment center will be built at the intersection of Rodd Field Road and South Padre Island Drive near Oso Bay. The center would feature at least six movie screens, a bowling alley, a videogame arcade with over 100 games, virtual reality interactive games and sports simulators, a bar, and a full food and beverage menu, city records show. It could also include escape rooms, a ropes course, laser tag and axe throwing — attractions that are available at some of Cinergy’s other entertainment centers scattered across Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Illinois…
