Corpus Christi Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Risk Through Sunday Morning in South Texas

Corpus Christi, Texas – Heavy rain threatens to soak South Texas from Friday through Sunday morning, bringing a heightened risk of flash flooding to communities across the region. Localized downpours could quickly overwhelm drainage systems, especially in low-lying areas and along key coastal roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a disturbance moving into the area will spark rounds of showers and storms with high rainfall rates. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 4) for excessive rainfall, meaning at least a 5% chance of flash flooding through the weekend. Coastal cities including Corpus Christi, Victoria, and Kingsville, as well as rural areas near US-77 and TX-44, should remain alert for rapid water rises and impassable roads.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded streets and never attempt to cross barricades. Emergency managers advise charging phones, checking for local alerts, and having a plan in case travel becomes unsafe. This rain event marks the region’s first significant flooding risk of July and may impact weekend plans or delay outdoor activities…
