A group of young culinary enthusiasts gathered July24 at the Rockport Center for the Arts, where the kitchen was alive with the sounds of sizzling ingredients and enthusiastic chatter during the center’s annual Young Chefs Camp.
Led by instructor Debbie Minns, the camp teaches children how to prepare healthy meals using whole ingredients. Minns, who has worked with the center’s after-school programs for three years and taught the summer camp last year, said the camp encourages kids to move beyond frozen meals and microwave snacks.
“We use real food here,” Minns said. “Even when we make cupcakes, we do it with whole ingredients , not out of a box. We want them to learn that they can make things from scratch.”…
