Man airlifted to burn unit after fire erupts at Stripes on Airline Rd. and S.P.I.D.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man is in critical condition after a fire broke out at a gas station Tuesday evening on the city’s south side.

According to Corpus Christi Fire Department Asst. Chief Tony Perez, the fire started around 5:30 p.m. at the Stripes gas station located at the corner of Airline Road and South Padre Island Drive. Officials said a vehicle and a gas pump caught fire, and the man was badly burned in the process.

Fire crews responded within minutes, quickly working to control the flames. A first responder immediately began treating the victim on scene before he was transported to Bay Area Hospital. He was later airlifted to a burn unit in San Antonio…
