Janet Harte Library reduces public hours to boost campus security

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The City of Corpus Christi is rolling out major changes to public access hours at the Janet F. Harte Library, a shared space with the campus of Flour Bluff High School.

City leaders said the decision stems from a growing concern over student safety. The original agreement allowing the library and the high school to operate on the same property was formalized back in 1998 — just one year before the Columbine school shooting reshaped the national conversation around campus security.
