Editor’s note: The Corpus Christi City Council voted July 29 to postpone until Aug. 26 a decision on whether to continue design work for the city’s proposed seawater desalination plant. The move came after some council members balked at a new $1.2 billion cost estimate for the plant.
In my lifetime, planning for the future has never seemed to be a priority for our local city government. Reacting to the problem at hand was more the norm or delaying a solution by “kicking the can down the road.” Our city streets are a prime example of the results of that thinking.
One bright spot for planning ahead is the Mary Rhodes Pipeline; but even pumping at max capacity requires additional supply. It is hard to imagine the dire situation we would be in today without her vision and determination…
