Susie Black: A vibrant voice for Rockport’s Leading Ladies event

In the heart of Rockport, the annual Leading Ladies event is set to shine a spotlight on one of its most cherished community figures, Susie Black, who has been selected as this year’s keynote speaker. A fifth-generation Aransas County native, master fabric artist, and community cornerstone, Susie’s selection is a testament to her deep roots and enduring contributions to the cultural fabric of Rockport. Scheduled for Aug. 9, the event promises to be a celebration of leadership, resilience, and the colorful legacy of women who shape their communities.

Susie Black, recently honored as Rockport’s Master Artist, the 33rd in the town’s history and the first fabric artist to receive this distinction, embodies the spirit of creativity and community. Her work, showcased in the record-breaking exhibit For the Love of Fabric, which drew 276 attendees on opening night, redefines fabric art as a boundless medium. From quilts to painted textiles, Susie’s creations reflect her vibrant personality and her refusal to be confined to a single label.
