Children with special needs ‘reel in’ joy in Rockport

Laughter echoed across Rockport Beach on Aug. 2, as 30 children with special needs and their families took to the waters of Little Bay for the annual C.A.S.T. for Kids event, a free boating and fishing experience designed to provide joy, inclusion, and unforgettable memories.

Hosted by the C.A.S.T. (“Catch A Special Thrill”) for Kids Foundation, the event brought together 21 volunteer boat captains, dozens of shore volunteers, and service animals from Go Team Service Dogs, who helped ensure smooth boarding for first-time boaters.

From sun-up to mid-afternoon, the dock bustled with excitement. Every child who cast a line caught a fish, a record for the event. Among the memorable catches were a shark, two flounder, and an oversized redfish…
