CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Engineering firm Kiewit has warned city leaders that halting work on the Inner Harbor desalination plant could result in major delays and higher costs. City officials said if construction resumes, it will be no later than Aug. 28, though Kiewit cautioned that regaining the original timeline may be difficult.
Nueces County Commissioner Mike Pusley, a former Corpus Christi City Council member, said the Harbor Island desalination project remains a long-term goal but is not an immediate solution.
“I think the Harbor Island is a great project, but that’s eight years down the road and right now we don’t have eight years,” Pusley said. “We’re in stage three water rationing, and that’s not going to get any better as this drought continues. We have to do something to get additional water to this community as quickly as we possibly can.”…
