CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Pitmaster Pete Trevino is taking his Big Bertha Foundation to the next level by becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, allowing the organization to provide tax-exempt support to families in need.
Trevino, who has spent the last 15 years helping South Texas families, said the process was unusually fast. While experts say IRS approval for nonprofit status can take nearly a year, Trevino and his team were approved within just ten days.
