Just over 50 years ago, the late Father Charlie Doherty had a vision to bring a Catholic church to the city of Ingleside. All these decades later, the church remains as a staple of the Catholic community in Ingleside, and those who have had a hand in its journey gathered to celebrate a milestone earlier this month.
On Aug. 15, community members as well as parishioners and more gathered in front of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church at the corner of 8th Street and Main Street in Ingleside to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the church’s dedication. The church also named its parish hall after the late Father Charlie Doherty, who served as the church’s pastor for about 20 years from 1966-86.
It was a time for those in attendance to celebrate the foundation on which the Catholic community in Ingleside has become. Even more, current pastor Father Patrick Higgins said it was a time to appreciate what’s been done while focusing on ensuring its future for another 50 years and beyond as a beacon in the community…
