CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Hillcrest residents and community groups gathered Thursday at Brooks African Methodist Episcopal Worship Center to protest the proposed Inner Harbor desalination plant, voicing concerns about rising costs and environmental impacts.
Organizers said the project, which city staff recently revealed could cost nearly $1.2 billion — more than five times the original estimate — is both unaffordable and harmful to surrounding neighborhoods.
