Six months later Sinton continues its recovery from the Welder Fire

SINTON, Texas — Six months ago, what has come to be known as the Welder Fire devastated the town of Sinton, Texas. In a matter of minutes, multiple homes were gone to the inferno, clustered along Hamilton street as flames jumped the railroad track among those who lost their home, a single mother of three named Krystal Martinez.

“My oldest son was like ‘mom, something just blew up behind our house,'” Martinez said. “I’m like ‘ok everyone come to the office get out of the house’ and I rushed back because there was smoke everywhere so I rushed back to get my dogs out of the house and I could see the fire from right behind our fence and got the dogs out and I was told about 15 minutes after I left. I had no home left.”

The tightly-knit community quickly responded, coming together to help their neighbors, including Sandra Coates who’s called Sinton home for 67 years…
