Saving Pumpkin: how one foster family gave an older dog a new life

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Today, Pumpkin is a joyful sight. A happy dog enjoying life at the park. But just a few months ago, the10 to 12-year-old pooch was facing a much different reality.

Her previous owners, overwhelmed by rising medical costs, surrendered her to Corpus Christi Animal Care Services. Pumpkin had been living with seven tumors, including a mass on her face that had grown to nearly two pounds.

The shelter quickly turned to one of their most trusted partners, Connie Baird and her team at South Texas Animal Rescue group. After a bath and some tender love and care, STAR successfully removed every tumor. But before the surgery even took place, Tom and Belinda Chambers knew Pumpkin had a place in their home…
