South Texans share personal journeys to US citizenship

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For some South Texans, Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t just about celebrating the past, it’s about honoring the long, personal journeys that led them to call America home.

Take Jazmin Salazar, for example. The bookkeeper at an immigration law office came to the United States when she was just 10 years old and undocumented. Years later, she became a DACA recipient, and eventually, a naturalized U.S. citizen.

“I like to say I went from undocumented, to DACA-mented, to documented, and now a U.S. citizen,” Salazar said with a laugh. “Four stages to get where I’m at and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love the U.S.”…
