Pirates outlast Wildcats for Highway 181 bragging rights

In a battle to see who would emerge with Highway 181 supremacy, the Sinton Pirates held off the Gregory-Portland Wildcats in a tightly contested matchup on Sept. 17 at Pirate Stadium, in Sinton.

In a game that was within three points early in the fourth quarter, the Pirates pulled away late in the fourth quarter to eventually come out on top 38-28. It is the second consecutive season the Pirates have emerged victorious in the San Patricio County battle.

“We always talk to the kids about being able to compose yourself and tell them “you’ve got to be able to fix stuff and make adjustments. It’s all about making adjustments – sticking to your game plan or changing your game plan if necessary,” Pirates head coach Michael Troutman said. “What we’re really good at with this team, is that they’re able to adjust (to adversity) and to take coaching, to learn and learn on the run. I have a great coaching staff that believes in these kids, they make great adjustments. And then the kids believe in what we do.”…
