The Aransas County Navigation District (ACND), approved the pursuit of a federal grant aimed at certifying Rockport Harbor as a clean and resilient marina at its regular meeting on Oct. 6.
The grant application, which was set to be due Oct. 15, is for up to $40,000 through the Coastal Bend Council of Government’s (COG) Homeland Security Division GF Coast Alliance. The initiative is part of the Texas Clean Marina Program. The grant requires no local matching funds and focuses on environmental stewardship, enhancing resiliency, and hazard mitigation, including emergency preparedness.
The representative from COG noted that Rockport Harbor would be the first marina the Gulf of America Alliance works with in this capacity. The grant includes funds to send two people to the Gulf of America Alliance conference to present the district’s progress. While the initial focus is on Rockport Harbor, staff may consider pursuing certification for other harbors next year…
