Rockport churches unite to raise funds for flood victims

In a coastal community still shaped by the memory of its own disaster, two neighboring churches are joining forces this month to throw a lifeline to another Texas region grappling with devastation.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church and St. Peter’s Catholic Church will host their fifth annual Oktoberfest on Oct. 25, marking the first major collaboration since St. Peter’s acquired the property next door. But this year, the lederhosen and lively polka music are in service of a solemn cause: raising funds for victims of recent catastrophic flooding in Kerrville and the surrounding Hill Country.

“The theme is helping out the flood victims in Kerrville,” said “Pastor Mike” Giese of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. “Communities helping communities is what we’re all about here.”…
