Corpus Christi contracts far-field study for Inner Harbor Desalination plans

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi officials are reviving plans for a desalination plant along the Inner Harbor, adding new scientific reviews and financial safeguards months after the city council rejected the previous proposal over rising costs.

The earlier deal with contractor Kiewit was projected to reach nearly $1 billion. In September, the council voted against moving forward, citing the price and uncertainty surrounding the long-term financial impact.

City leaders now say any new version of the project must include firm price guarantees before council members are asked to vote again…
