Vatican announces Mario Aviles as Bishop of Diocese of Corpus Christi

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Vatican announced on Monday that Pope Leo XIV has appointed Auxiliary Bishop Mario Aviles as the next Bishop of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, according to the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville.

Bishop Daniel Flores said in a statement, “Let us pray for Bishop Mario as he prepares to take up his new mission of service in Corpus Christi. May God bless Bishop Mario Avilés and may the maternal care of the Blessed and ever Immaculate Virgin Mary accompany him always.”

Bishop Aviles has served as the auxiliary bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville since 2018. Before, he served as a priest of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri since 1998.
