CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 19-year-old accused of killing his girlfriend in 2023 is now expected to stand trial early next year after a Nueces County judge reset the case for late February or early March.
Prosecutors say Justin Alex Tovar, who was dating 15-year-old Eriya Ruiz at the time, stabbed her to death in June 2023. Ruiz was found severely wounded on the porch of her Southside home and later died from her injuries.
Tovar was arrested on murder charges shortly after the attack. His trial was originally scheduled to begin in March of this year, but it was postponed to give the state more time to review evidence…
