The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and local organizations recognized employers at the 28th Annual Texas Workforce Conference in Corpus Christi from December 3 to 5, 2025. The event, with the theme ‘The Journey Ahead: A Shared Vision,’ honored businesses for their contributions to workforce development and employee advancement in Texas. Texas has a civilian labor force of over 15.8 million and more than 660,000 employers. The conference focused on the role of these organizations in the state’s economy.
DHR Health, nominated by Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley, received the Large Employer of the Year award. In the past year, DHR Health created over 1,100 new jobs and supported about 6,000 direct and 5,000 indirect positions in various sectors. The organization also used the Skills Development Fund to provide training for more than 3,300 employees, with an 86 percent completion rate.
Other finalists for Large Employer of the Year were Georgia-Pacific and Knauf. Georgia-Pacific, nominated by Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas, filled over 1,200 jobs at several facilities and expanded technical training. Knauf, recognized for its new facility in McGregor, Texas, created more than 160 jobs and supported 300 additional positions with local partners.
