Rockport Cultural Arts District highlights artists, conservation efforts

The Rockport Cultural Arts District (RCAD) continues to celebrate the artists and natural surroundings that have shaped the community into one of the nation’s leading coastal art colonies.

RCAD officials say the district’s most significant cultural assets are its artists, thousands of whom have been drawn to Rockport since the 1940s to paint, exhibit, and sell their work. More than 300 artists now call Rockport home, with many others visiting the area to attend classes or capture the Coastal Bend’s landscapes and abundant wildlife.

The influence of the natural environment is reflected in the quality of artwork produced in the district and is a primary reason Rockport has been recognized as one of the top 10 coastal art colonies in the United States…
