The sister of a teacher who was killed during the 2022 Uvalde school shooting was removed and barred from a Texas courtroom after barging into a former police officer’s child endangerment trial Tuesday.
Irma Garcia, 48, was a teacher at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where 21 people, including 19 children, were killed by gunman Salvador Ramos on May 24, 2022. Her sister, Velma Lisa Duran, had an emotional outburst in a Corpus Christi, Texas, courtroom Tuesday. The incident occurred during the trial for a former police officer, Adrian Gonzales, for child endangerment in connection with the mass school shooting. Duran disrupted the court proceedings shortly after Sgt. Joe Vasquez, one of five who took down Ramos about 80 minutes after gunfire erupted, was cross-examined.
