Rehabilitated sea turtles get a second chance, released back into the Gulf

PORT ARANSAS, Texas — Several sea turtles are back where they belong after months of dedicated care and rehabilitation.

Almost 20 green sea turtles and one nearly 100-pound loggerhead were released into the Gulf Saturday morning following extended treatment at the Animal Rehabilitation Keep, also known as ARK.

Unlike cold-stunned turtles that can often be treated and released quickly, these turtles faced more serious medical challenges. Many required long-term care after suffering from illnesses and injuries including pneumonia, entanglement, and fishing hook injuries…
