North Padre Island Packed: Thousands Celebrate Mardi Gras and Tackle Trash

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With warmer weather finally here, people are heading back out to Padre Island—some to celebrate, others ready to get to work. Thousands are returning to the beach this weekend to enjoy the Mardi Gras festivities or to roll up their sleeves for the annual beach cleanup.

As the sun rose, so did hundreds of volunteers, lining up bright and early for the biggest beach cleanup of the year—the 31st annual Billy Sandifer Big Shell Beach Cleanup.
