Second South Texas sailor killed at Pearl Harbor identified after 84 years

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — More than eight decades after the Attack on Pearl Harbor, a South Texas family is finally preparing to bring home a sailor who never returned from war.

The U.S. Navy has confirmed the remains of Clyde Clifton McMeans—a 26-year-old seaman who grew up in Banquete have been identified through DNA testing.

McMeans was serving aboard the battleship U.S.S. California when Japanese forces launched the surprise attack on December 7, 1941. The ship was struck during the attack, and McMeans was among the sailors killed. For decades, he was listed as missing in action…
