Aransas Pass council denies request for police AI-assisted reporting software

The Aransas Pass city council has denied the Aransas Pass Police Department’s request for a grant that would have provided AI-assisted police reporting software for a pilot period of one year.

During a regular meeting on May 5, the council voted 3-2 to reject the police department’s request to pursue grant funding for an AI-assisted reporting program. Had it been approved, the APPD would have applied for multiple grants to fund modern AI Assisted Police reporting software in the amount of $20,800.

Council members Luana “LuLu” Martin, Ruth Camarillo-Smith, and Mayor Jason Knight voted against the request, while council members Elise Chacon and Randy Haskins voted in favor of seeking grant funds…
