Developer drops plan to build homes next to Gwinnett wildlife sanctuary

A controversial proposal to build hundreds of homes next to the Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary has died just days before it was set to go before the Gwinnett Planning Commission, county Commissioner Ben Ku announced on Facebook on Friday.

Middleburg Communities wanted to build 280 homes on land that was within walking distance of the wildlife sanctuary. That plan drew concerns from the sanctuary’s owners who said they would likely have to close if the development was approved.

But, it turns out it only took Gwinnett County planning staff, which recommended denial of the project, to put a stop to it…
