ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Scattered shower and storm chances stick around for the next few days. There will be some dry time, but more consistent dry and warm weather arrives into the upcoming week.
Tonight: Showers possible, fog later
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through the evening as an outflow boundary pushes southward from Tennessee into North Georgia. Most storms should stay on the lighter side, but the main concern remains: localized heavy rainfall and flash flooding, especially in areas that already picked up 4 to 6 inches of rain earlier this week.
Sunday: Cooler, misty morning — then more showers possible
A cold front will push through overnight, bringing cooler air into North Georgia by Sunday morning. Here’s what that means for the day:
Sunday Morning: Expect misty and possibly foggy conditions around daybreak, especially if you’re heading out early. Visibility could be reduced, so take it slow if you’re heading out before sunrise.
Sunday Afternoon: Temperatures will only reach the low-to-mid 70s — about 5 to 10 degrees cooler than normal for late May. The cooler air will help reduce thunderstorm chances in typical North Georgia areas (along and northeast of Atlanta), but showers are still possible, especially in the southern part of the region.
Monday/Tuesday: Spotty showers and storms possible
An upper-level trough moving in from New England will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms by Monday & Tuesday afternoon. Most of the days should be fine, but if storms do develop, they could be a bit stronger with gusty winds and heavy rain.
Mid-week: Finally, a break!
The good news? After the early-week system moves through, drier conditions are expected from mid-week through the end of next week. High pressure will settle in, and we’ll see more sunshine and less rain…
