LAWRENCEVILLE — The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has approved a new Short-Term Rental Ordinance that will establish regulations for properties rented for fewer than 30 days, including those listed on platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO.
The ordinance, which takes effect April 14, 2027, follows the Board’s adoption of the Short-Term Rental Task Force Recommendations Report. The 10-member task force spent nine months studying the issue through data analysis, public meetings and community feedback before developing policy recommendations.
Historically, Gwinnett has had limited regulations governing short-term rentals beyond zoning standards adopted in 2024. The task force was created after residents raised concerns about increased code violations, parking issues, noise, absentee property owners and the impact of transient rentals on neighborhood character.
The report also recognized the economic benefits of short-term rentals. Tourism contributes more than $1 billion annually to Gwinnett’s economy, and short-term rentals generated nearly $1.9 million in hotel-motel tax revenue in 2024 to help fund tourism initiatives and the expansion of the Gas South Convention Center…
