Mural brings splash of color and history to downtown

Last week, after several months in the design phase, elements of a new mural on the side of the Hensley Plaza in downtown Jasper began to emerge.

The outline of a train and smokestack waited patiently for color. Silhouettes of people relaxing outside against a mountainous backdrop were beginning to be filled in. The Woodbridge Inn water tower peeked from behind a barn, and an image of Jasper’s old city hall, jail, and fire police department, – which were housed in that building several decades ago – sat on a grassy field.

Also, in a nod to the former and longtime inhabitant of the building, Hensley Automotive, a mechanic leaned over the hood of a black 1935 Pontiac…
