CANTON — A new campaign aimed at growing Cherokee County’s workforce will include offering signing bonuses to employees, Cherokee Office of Economic Development President and CEO Misti Martin announced Wednesday.
COED’s Work in Cherokee campaign is expected to launch in the spring, Martin told attendees at the Council for Quality Growth’s 2024 State of Cherokee County event Wednesday in Canton.
The campaign includes a $1,500 signing bonus to employees who relocate their job to Cherokee County, after a 120-day employment period.
COED is also planning to conduct a workforce analysis, and an update to the careers page on its website to better match employers with job seekers for open positions.
Work in Cherokee is funded with American Rescue Plan Act federal pandemic relief dollars.
Martin said it’s important that Cherokee County is a place where businesses want to be.
“With our Cherokee By Choice 2.0 strategy, we have an incredible opportunity for success, but it is not going to be easy,” Martin said. “We must continue to have an environment where job creators and innovators choose us time and time again because we are the best place to build the business of tomorrow, and where everyone in the community can benefit from the opportunities. If we want to maintain this incredible position we are in today for another generation, we need to make smart moves now to secure that future.”
